Aileen Asher
Glass Engraver
Location: Tomintoul

Aileen who is proud of her Scottish roots, being a daughter of a Lonach Highlander & a Granddaughter of a Duff Highlander, was brought up in Strathdon, Aberdeenshire, where on leaving school she was taught Glass Engraving by The late Hon. Andrew Lawson Johnston, who also enabled her to learn sandblasting techniques in Crieff from Stuart Strathearn, to help him set up his own company, Glenernan Glass, where Aileen was involved in the running of the production side, until her marriage to Raymond, followed by the birth of two sons.
Aileen now works from home in Tomintoul, the Highest Village in the Highlands, where with artistic flair & imagination she creates one-off pieces of Hand Engraving using a down-line motor with hand piece & diamond burrs.
Aileen achieved Craft Membership with The Guild of Glass Engravers in May 2009.
Aileen likes working to clients’ specific requirements in creating a unique gift. She enjoys engraving to traditional designs & inscriptions of her own, and is inspired by keeping Scotland alive on glass. She will engrave anything onto glass – inscriptions, portraits, buildings, pets and crests, being a few examples. Aileen has a selection of glassware for sale and can order pieces specially for a particular commission. Her work can also be seen in local Craft shops & Art Galleries, Exhibitions & Games with Creative Cairngorms and at occasional Cairngorm Farmers’ Markets.
