There has been a strong tradition of landscape art in Scotland for centuries. From the romantic painters so favoured by Queen Victoria (including Sir Edwin Landseer whose ubiquitous image, Monarch of the Glen, now appears on Glenfiddich Whisky bottles); to the Scottish Colourists; Joan Eardley; John Lowrie Morrison and many others – all share a desire to capture the world-class wilderness of the Highlands on canvas.
A strong sense of connection with nature, geology and the landscape is also present in the work of many of the artists in and around the Cairngorms National Park today. Take a look at some of our members’ links for a fresh perspective on this magnificent, multi-layered landscape.
