Tomintoul Gallery
Location: Tomintoul

Loch Pityoulish and the Cairngorms

Bill and Jane Lannagan opened their Gallery by the Square in Tomintoul in December 2003.  The quaint little building was built in the 19th century and has been a cobbler’s shop, restaurant and a woodcarver’s  shop. Renovated by Bill, a former Chartered Surveyor, it has a delightful airy Gallery area showing traditional, contemporary and Jane’s batik fine art paintings, glazed tiles and art and crafts of other local artists.

Jane, who can be seen most days working in the Gallery was influenced by her father Tom Guise, a prolific painter himself- she started developing her own batik method when she moved to this area in the late 70′s and has drawn her inspiration from the hues and textures of the Scottish Highlands.  Jane’s technique is not entirely a traditional one, but still involves the use of a resist, which can be either wax or gutta.  She mostly works on cotton and uses heat fix dyes. For more information on her methods contact her direct or look at her website.

Bill carries out bespoke picture framing in the Gallery and specialises in hand painted wooden frames.  At home he has a workshop where fine art scanning and giclee printing to A1 size, hot press dry mounting are available.
